Not exactly like looking for a needle in a haystack, but... Daniel Bellinger. Dane Belton. Micah McFadden. D.J. Davidson. Marcus McKethan. Darrian Beavers.
More than half the New York Giants’ draft picks this year occurred on Day 3. Although many of them were little known or unknown to many of us before the draft, Giants fans and BBV staff writers have been digging into their college careers to get a sense of what they might offer to a Giants team that is somewhat thin on talent.
This raises the question: What are the odds of any of them becoming valuable parts of a future playoff-caliber Giants roster (whenever that happens)?
Identifying good players
To get an idea, we can look at previous drafts. I use the Pro Football Reference weighted Approximate Value (wAV) career scores for every Round 4, 5, 6, 7 draft pick made by every team in the past 5 drafts (2017-2021). A mean wAV per year of 5 or better Collapse

What might the Giants’ defensive front look like in 2022? The New York Giants new regime has maintained throughout the 2022 offseason that they have a plan. They’ve given the sense that there’s overarching vision for the team, some primary plans, and then a series of contingency plans in place.
We may never know exactly which plans came to fruition and which plans went up in smoke — though we can probably make some educated guesses.
But trusting that the new front office and coaching staff has a plan (or series of plans) has given us a starting point from which we can speculate how the 2022 Giants will take shape. So far we’ve looked at how the Giants might employ their offensive skill position players, block up front, and cover on the back end of their defense.
Now it’s time to take a look at how the Giants’ defensive front can come together.

There’s something familiar about this... It’s Groundhog Day.
Again.
May is perhaps my favorite month during the calendar year as a football writer.
Why? Because after months of speculation over the draft, landing spots, mock drafts and the rest, the time for speculation is over. We now know where various players landed and we can begin thinking about how they will fit into their new teams from a schematic perspective.
Do those words sound familiar? They should. After all, it was just over a year ago when I wrote this piece, diving into how the New York Giants could utilize their new wide receiver, Kadarius Toney, in the offense.
Now it is time to do the same, with a twist. In this piece we will dive into how the Giants might use Wan’Dale Robinson in the offense, and how Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka could use both Toney and Robinson together next season.

Just to get him somewhere that’s not down the road in Philadelphia, or just to get him to a team they’re not going to play twice a year, whatever it may be.

Brightwell was drafted for special teams by the previous regime; will the new Giants’ regime value his skillset? How will the New York Giants new regime assess the value of running back/special teamer Gary Brightwell? That’s an interesting question, and the answer could go a long way toward determining whether or not the second-year running back has a future with the Giants.

The Chiefs were in the Super Bowl twice, winning once, and made the playoffs all five seasons Kafka was there. He was learning under offensive mastermind Andy Reid.
So, why did the 34-year-old Kakfa leave the Chiefs for the New York Giants? That is a team with five straight double-digit loss seasons. The Giants have a new GM. A new head coach with an offensive background who will have a big say in the offensive design and might call the plays.

Development of Evan Neal, Giants’ offensive line, now in hands of former Bills’ OL coach Just like there is a long line of failed New York Giants’ offensive lines, there is a long line of failed offensive line coaches.
Since Pat Flaherty went out the door with Tom Coughlin after the 2015 season, Mike Solari, Hal Hunter, Marc Colombo, Dave DeGuglielmo and Rob Sale have all tried unsuccessfully to build the Giants’ offensive line into a functional unit.
All failed. Some for reasons out of their control, others just because they weren’t up to the task.
Now, it is Bobby Johnson’s turn to try and help the Giants build an offensive line that gives quarterback Daniel Jones and the rest of the offense an opportunity to be, at least, competent.

Hints of Daboll’s evolution on offense when Buffalo visited MetLife to play the Giants Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills under the guidance of offensive coordinator Brian Daboll developed a reputation as a pass-first offensive juggernaut in which running the football was sometimes an afterthought. The last time we saw Allen and Daboll on the field was in the unforgettable playoff game that Buffalo lost to Kansas City 42-36 in OT. Buffalo passed 37 times in that game and ran only 24 times (11 of them by Allen himself; the RBs had only 13 carries).
That emphasis on the pass is the way the NFL has been going. And if Joe Schoen is to be believed, it is the way the 2022 Giants will go too. Schoen was on the BLEAV in Giants podcast with Bob Papa and Carl Banks last week, and this is what he had to say:
