What did we learn during Friday’s practice? EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants completed their third day of training camp on Friday at Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Here are some of the takeaways.
Overview
Today was my first day as a credentialed member of the media. Eclectic melodious tunes of Eminem and Mr. Brightside permeated the slightly windy, sunny day in late July. After listening to head coach Brian Daboll talk, we took the field to see every day drill periods with position groups. Alone, off on the far field, Gunner Olszewski fielded punts.
Rookie tight end Theo Johnson and safety Tyler Nubin were off on the side stretching with defensive backs Jalen Mills and Stantley Thomas-Oliver. Johnson and Mills were accelerating and striding out with their light sprints. Daboll said Nubin has a tight calf and it’s not a long term issue, alluding that it was more Collapse

Offensive lineman has bruised ribs, should be back in team drills soon Jermaine Eluemunor took the kind of shot from Dexter Lawrence on Monday that no one wants to take, a hit to the ribs during an unpadded practice that left him crumpled to the ground.
It also left the Giants, who invested heavily in Eluemunor as part of their offensive line reconstruction, and their fans holding their breath.
The veteran offensive lineman, though, is fine—no broken ribs.
“It’s just really bad bruising,” Eluemunor said. “It’s nothing that should keep me out too long.”
Eluemunor participated in walk-through portions of Thursday’s practice and will be back in team drills as soon as he is allowed.
Head coach Brian Daboll said the Giants “absolutely” dodged a bigger issue.
“First couple of days of practice, no pads, and you see that, you’re like, damn,” Daboll said. But everything checked out okay.”
Eluemunor said it’s “Not fun. Not fun at all” running into Collapse

Giants’ assistant GM offers more detail on how the Giants decided to select LSU wide receiver J.J. McCarthy, and by extension Michael Penix and Bo Nix, were not serious considerations for the New York Giants at No. 6 in the 2024 NFL Draft. Assistant GM Brandon Brown confirmed that and explained why on this week’s ‘Official Hard Knocks Podcast’ with Peter Schrager.
“We took all the quarterbacks through the whole gauntlet ad nauseum,” Brown told Schrager. “When we got down to it, there was a separation in terms of how we onboard them, what the return may be early on, then compared to the playmakers, whether it’s Marv, whether it’s Malik.”
Brown also confirmed the Giants’ interest in quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye.
“We felt great just from a support, a plan, talking with [Brian] Daboll, talking with Joe, the coordinators, that those top-three quarterbacks you mentioned, along with both Marv [Harrsion] and Malik, that would have gave Collapse

The Giants’ left tackle talks about his health and working with all the new faces in the offensive line room Every season in the NFL is important, but 2024 could be a particularly consequential year for the New York Giants.
Where they were trying to live up to heightened expectations a year ago, they’re now trying to put a miserable 2023 season behind them. One of the biggest reasons — both figuratively and literally — for the Giants’ nightmare season a year ago was the loss of starting left tackle Andrew Thomas. Thomas is one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL, but they lost him to a stubbornly lingering hamstring injury suffered in Week 1 last year.
But now Thomas is back, and he’s feeling pretty darn good.
“I’m excited to be back, I love football, it’s the best time of the year,” Thomas said.
“I’m feeling great. Obviously, I had the hamstring last year, but I feel really well. Doing a lot of rehab stuff, a lot of Nordics and Collapse

Let’s take a very early look at who’s stock might be rising and who’s stock might be falling With three New York Giants training camp practices in the books, let’s do an early “stock up/stock down” report. These are very early impressions as the Giants have not yet practiced in pads and it is impossible — or unfair — to draw many conclusions from what we have seen thus far.
Stock up
Daniel Jones — The quarterback has been inconsistent over three practices, missing some throws he should be able to make. The fact is, though, he is practicing. In full. Running around with no limitations. All of that just eight months after surgery for a torn ACL. That’s a win, even if the results have not been perfect.
11-on-11 drills — The Giants have leaned heavily into full 11-on-11 work during the first three days of training camp. That’s a big change from a year ago when they did not do a ton of full team work early in training camp.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The New York Giants completed their second day of training camp on Thursday at Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Here are some of the takeaways.
Jermaine Eluemunor is OK
Offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor escaped major injury after Wednesday’s collision with 340-pound defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
Eluemunor was in uniform Thursday and participated in walk-thru portions of practice. Josh Ezeudu took first-team right tackle reps during 11-on-11 work.
“I’m OK. Little banged up, but that’s the name of the game playing offensive line,” Eluemunor said, adding that it’s “not fun. Not fun at all” taking a shot from Lawrence.
“In my, what, eight-year career, I haven’t missed a day of training camp, so I was going to come out here either way and try and do as much as I could.”

Part III of my redraft player rankings Welcome to Part III of my Fantasy Football Rankings, Tiers and commentary for 2024 Redraft leagues. I’ve already covered the Quarterbacks and Running Backs, and today I’ve got the Wide Receivers—by far the deepest swimming pool in all of fantasy. I’ll finish with the Tight Ends later this week. Remember that we are only in late July and a lot can still change—I’ll update all of the rankings in August, as draft season gets going.
Everyone loves a pop quiz, right? I’ve got one for you: What do Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs, Mike Evans, Keenan Allen, Cooper Kupp, DeAndre Hopkins, and Amari Cooper have in common? If you said each of the eight has at least two seasons as a Top-12 WR in fantasy on his resume, you’d be correct. If you said each one currently has an Expert Consensus Ranking (ECR) inside the Top 36 wide receivers (Half PPR), you’d also be correct. In fact, Collapse

Could Cager force his way into an expanded role? During mandatory minicamp, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll did something coaches don’t often do. He offered unsolicited praise of one of his players — reserve tight end Lawrence Cager.
“I’ve been happy with Cage...Probably one of the most improved players throughout the offseason that we’ve had relative to playing fast, being able to use his speed, not thinking, being in the system here for a little bit,” Daboll said at the time. “I’ve been very happy with his progress.”
Cager told Big Blue View after Thursday’s practice that he was not aware of Daboll’s remarks.
“It really didn’t get back to me,” Cager said. “But, I mean, obviously as an individual it feels good to know that a coach believes in you and has seen the growth that you try to make for yourself.
“Just hearing that is just good. Like you said, any player will tell you that it’s good Collapse

Head coach is “addicted” to Pilates New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen spilled the beans Thursday on something not even ‘Hard Knocks’ could uncover. Head coach Brian Daboll’s secret weight loss weapon this offseason.
Pilates.
“What he fell in love with probably over the last three or four weeks is Pilates,” Schoen told Kay Adams during an appearance on ‘Up & Adams.’ “He’s doing Pilates. The first week and a half he was dying. He could barely move, but now after sticking with it for a couple weeks he’s addicted.”
Daboll’s considerable weight loss from the end of the 2023 season is noticeable, and has been a topic of conversation around the Giants’ facility as training camp opened.
Daboll, who also participated in an offseason weight loss challenge among Giants staffers, would not divulge how much weight he has lost. He only said it was not equal to the more than 100 pounds he lost one year while coaching with the Collapse
